Publishing Services: Pelmo Books is a publishing
company based in Pretoria, South Africa. Our company
strives to assist authors to preserve our indigenous
languages by writing and publishing books that reflect on
South African indigenous cultures.
Of the 11 official South African languages, we publish in
nine indigenous languages: isiZulu, siSwati, isiNdebele,
isiXhosa, Setswana, Sesotho, Sepedi, Tshivenda and
Tsonga. Our mission is to ensure that our indigenous
languages do not fade away.
Our indigenous languages are still very much spoken,
although a large percentage of the speakers struggle to
read or write in their mother tongue. By having material
available in these languages, we encourage people to
read, speak and write in their mother-tongue languages.
We publish dramas, one act plays, novels, poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Most of our books are made
for libraries, schools and for general reading. We recently ventured into cookbooks, terminology books, activity books and teacher/student guides.
