The Publishers Association of South Africa (PASA) is pleased to announce three scholarships for Publishing studies in 2024. Two undergraduate scholarships for the University of Pretoria BIS publishing programme have been awarded to students to complete their second year of study. A further Honours postgraduate scholarship has been awarded for the University of the Witwatersrand Publishing Studies course. The scholarships have been awarded through an extensive selection process at their institutions; this award is made possible by funding from the FP&M SETA. Candidates have been awarded full tuition for the 2024 academic year as well as a living stipend sponsored by PASA members.
The scholarship programme developed by the PASA Transformation Committee aims to facilitate transformation through the skills development of graduates. Access to higher education training in the book industry is often and increasingly a challenge for young people, especially those representing economically marginalised groups and the scholarships aim to bridge this gap.
The South African book industry is a vibrant and innovative environment that meaningfully contributes to increasing access to marginalized and under-represented authors and narratives. The partnership between PASA and the FP&M SETA hopes to continue to support the critical development of qualified young professionals for the South African book industry.
A call for 2025 scholarship applications will be made in July 2024 through the PASA media channels.
