I began proofreading novels and academic papers that my family and friends were busy with as a side ‘hobby’. From there it grew into proofreading internal emails and client-facing collateral within my corporate job.
I then realised that a career in editing and proofreading was what I wanted and so I left the corporate world of being an office manager / PA and started my own proofreading and editing freelance business.
During this time I also completed my BA English through University of London Goldsmiths.
I am now 4 years into running a successful editing and proofreading freelance service for publishing houses and individuals alike.

Qualifications and Experience:
I have close to fifty years (on and off) experience of writing, editing and proofreading for newspapers, news agencies, publishers, think tanks and government departments. I have been freelancing fulltime since late 2023. My clients include, inter alia, Penguin Random House, Jacana Media, Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA), North West University, and many individual authors, masters and PhD students.
I have a BA (English and Philosophy) from Wits (1972), an MA (with distinction) in creative writing from Wits (2018), and a PhD in creative writing from Wits (2023). I have qualified in the following courses:
