Qualifications and Experience:
I began proofreading novels and academic papers that my family and friends were busy with as a side ‘hobby’. From there it grew into proofreading internal emails and client-facing collateral within my corporate job.
I then realised that a career in editing and proofreading was what I wanted and so I left the corporate world of being an office manager / PA and started my own proofreading and editing freelance business.
During this time I also completed my BA English through University of London Goldsmiths.
I am now 4 years into running a successful editing and proofreading freelance service for publishing houses and individuals alike.

Qualifications and Experience:
After obtaining an HED (1973) and BA Hons in Speech and Drama (1975) at Natal University, Pietermaritzburg, I spent five years as an English (HL and FAL) and Speech and Drama teacher from Grade 1 to matric, and ran my own Speech and Drama studio in Pietermaritzburg. From 1981–86 I lived in Johannesburg, where I joined Learn and Teach adult literacy organisation for two years, developing, editing and proofreading reading materials for newly-literate adults, followed by four years lecturing at Johannesburg College of Education in the Speech and Drama Department. Returning to KZN (Durban) in 1987, I completed a BA Hons in Applied Linguistics (University of Natal Durban, 1988-89), and from 1990–2003 worked as a trainer and materials developer (incl. editing and proof-reading) for four NGOs involved in INSET, adult education and ABET, respectively. In 1999 I did a copy-editing course through the Institute of People Development. Since 2003, I have worked as a materials developer, editor and proof-reader, including school text books for NASOU Via Afrika, including English HL, Creative Arts, Life Orientation and Dramatic Arts; and academic theses and journal articles for the UKZN Schools of Development Studies and Nursing, Health Systems Trust (SAHR), and three issues of the ChildrenFirst Journal. For the past ten years, I have focused on developing, editing and proofreading educational materials that support South African and Sub-Saharan African education systems, notably for the DBE’s Care and Support for Teaching and Learning (CSTL) Programme with MIET AFRICA, and the British Council’s module on inclusive education for all student teachers: Teaching for All: Inclusive Teaching and Learning for South Africa.

Qualifications and Experience:
I completed my Bachelor’s degree, double majoring in History and Anthropology at the University of the Western Cape. This afforded me spectacular research and editing skills that can be applied to a variety of fields seeing as much of my studies emphasized interdisciplinary focus.
After graduation I did a stint as a research assistant to a respectable senior researcher in the Desmond Tutu Center for Religion and Theology at my Alma Mater, in the intersecting fields of religion, gender and the South African political sphere.
In addition to this I work as a private tutor for an affluent foreign family in which I independently develop niche teaching and curriculum planning for students of varying ages in both American and British curriculums. This allows me to expand my knowledge and hone my research skills beyond that possible in a traditional, structured work environment.
